Change it up! Modifying Assignments and Assessments for English Learners

March 1, 2025

We've all had the word "differentiation" thrown at us, but what does it LOOK LIKE? How do you modify assessments so that students can show what they know? We want to remove barriers to completing and exceling on projects and asserssments, not water things down! How do you make sure students can access the content AND demonstrate their abilities? Spend the day crafting assignments and assessment tools that will give you the data you need without the headache. Bring a few assessments to adjust and/or be prepared to create some new ones. You will walk away feeling refreshed and excited about your new assessment tools and strategies. Remember when teaching was fun? We do! All educators and administrators are welcome.

Language Difference vs Disability: Putting the Pieces Together

April 12, 2025

How do you distinguish between a language difference and a learning disability? How do you ensure that a student has had strong Tier 1 support? How can you ensure that English Learners (ELs) are not under or over represented in Special Education? This session will equip EL teachers and other staff with questions, resources, and data collection tools that can help identify English learners who need to be referred to your Special Education team. We will look at DEW guidance, MTSS and best practices for identifying students. In addition, we will discuss ways to support those ELs who currently have an IEP including how to provide services and collaborate with other staff. EL teachers, Special Education staff, and administrators are encouraged to attend.
