Introductory Spanish for Educators
A 15-hour introductory course specially designed to help educators use Spanish to support their students.

You have difficulty engaging, connecting, or communicating with Spanish speakers.
You remember a few things from high school Spanish, but you want a refresher of the basics.
You wonder about the effectiveness of particular instructional strategies on English Learners.
You struggle to communicate with parents and families.
At the end of this course, you will be able to have basic conversations in Spanish, while being more aware of the challenges and frustrations experienced by English Learners. You will be armed with new strategies and tools that can help you communicate and engage with your ELs.
Previous participants have reported reconnecting with their Spanish I skills, being able to empathize with their ELs, and feeling confident — armed with resources, strategies, and tools that they can't wait to apply.
During the 5-day course, we will...
Model and use strategies to help with language acquisition (e.g., repetition, cognates, TPR, etc.).
Analyze the effectiveness of various strategies.
Learn to use translation and interpretation tools.
Explore family connection tools.

Any educator or support staff member who would like to learn some basics in Spanish, including: greetings, school vocabulary, colors, common verbs, and more.

All students enrolled in the course must complete 100% of the online course, including any assessments and/or assignments, to receive a certificate of completion.
